Why the Lily?

Well, mainly because I LOVE it! I think all lilies are beautiful…the dramatic and regal Stargazer, wild tiger lilies, all the different varieties of daylilies and even sweet little rain lilies….but it’s the Calla Lily that absolutely captivates me the most.

I think it’s the most beautiful, graceful, sensuous, sexy flower there is….it’s like the Feminine incarnate! It amazes me that one simple design can have so many variations. Sometimes when I look at it, it seems like a figure suspended in a balletic pose….other times as if it’s reaching for something beyond.

From certain angles I see a heart shape, or looking in, it spirals down into a mysterious portal. With a little imagination, it even embodies the figure eight. Hmm, the symbol for infinity.

Quite simply, it moves me and has become the symbol for this Movement. So, at least for this year, I vow to continue painting lilies as an expression of my love affair with this incredible flower.

When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it,
it’s your world for the moment.
I want to give that world to someone else.
Most people in the city rush around so,
they have no time to look at a flower.
I want them to see it whether they want to or not.
